Living High Seas fills the Agreement on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) with life. Bringing pioneering countries together to improve the conservation and sustainable use of high seas biodiversity across the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific ocean basins, it supports first movers in developing country-driven and region-led proposals for area-based management tools (ABMTs), including marine protected areas (MPAs).

The partnership strengthens capacities for science-based action, fosters cooperation across sectors and borders, and enables joint learning and knowledge transfer.

Living High Seas contributes to the “30×30 target” of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework of the (CBD) by paving the way for collective action to safeguard high seas marine ecosystems.
